Most Nails Filed And Varnished In Eight Hours

On Thursday 13 May I went to London College of Beauty Therapy in London UK, with fellow adjudicator, Louise Ireland, to witness theGuinness World Records attempt at most nails filed and varnished in 8 hours. Around 100 treatment stations had been arranged over 4 rooms. All students participating would have to be certified to work on the public, so we began by selecting a number of students at random and checking their qualifications. The event had been organised as a fund raiser for women's charity 'W.O.W.' ('Wellbeing of Women'). The attempt began at 11 am, by which time there was already a long queue outside the college waiting to have the free treatments that had been advertised for the Guinness World Records attempt.

As per the Guinness World Records guidelines, women would receive a file, a base coat, 2 coats of varnish and a top coat, and men would receive a file and a buff to shine. To my surprise there were large numbers of men as well as women queuing for the treatments, known as ‘mini-manicures’, not to mention one or two pirates!

As the day went on we kept a constant eye on all students giving treatments to make sure a high level of quality was maintained. At the end of each hour all record cards filled in by each person receiving the mini-manicures were counted in the finance department. The tension built as the last hour approached, and due to the huge queue outside, a new treatment room was set up to cater for the waiting members of the public.

When we reached 7 pm a claxon sounded and we collected the final record cards for counting. A total number of 1,897 mini-manicures had been achieved in 8 hours, an impressive new Guinness World Records achievement.

The Largest Car Mosaic

On 10 April 2010, Volkswagen do Brasil achieved the record for the largest car mosaic in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Largest car mosaic

The record attempt took place during Gol Fest, an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Volkswagen Gol.

More than 25,000 people visited the Sambodromo of Sao Paulo on Saturday 10 April to be a part of the celebrations. Volkswagen prepared a big celebration for owners, customers, collectors, and Gol fans from around the country… and keeping in mind that the Gol has been a leader in its sector for 23 years in Brazil that means a lot of people!

The 44 historic different versions of the Gol were on display, along with other attractions and music performances and even three new Gol units were raffled.

However, the main event of the festival was about to come: owners of the Volkswagen Gol gathered their vehicles with other Volskwagen cars to create a mosaic displaying the Gol logo. As the largest car mosaic to the date used 413 cars and this mosaic displayed 460 cars, Volskwagen of Brazil and the car owners achieved a place in record history with the new Guinness World Records record for the largest car mosaic.

Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Carlos Martinez, travelled to Brazil for the occasion and presented an official certificate to Mr. Schmall, CEO of Volskwagen do Brasil.

Tremendous Record Attempt In Turkey

The following 2 spectacular record attempts took place on 25 May, 2010. The attempts had been organised as part of the GWR Live! Roadshow in Turkey at Forum Bornova, in Izmir, Turkey. Mr. Ilker Çevik, also known as Yoma Adam (Hawser Man, a maritime term meaning “knot”) broke two very interesting records.

Fastest time to pass through a toilet seat 3 times” According to theGuinness World Records rules, the toilet seat must have a maximum diameter of 22 cm and a length of 30 cm.

The toilet seat I measured had a diameter of 22 cm and its lenght was 29.5 cm. The owner of this record was Mr. Daniel Browning Smith. He broke the record in Madrid, Spain, in 2009. His timing was 1 minute 21 seconds. Ilker Cevik broket his record in 28.14 seconds.

ilkerklocertificateBRC_0062.JPGMost passes through a metal hoop in 1 minute”. This was a new category in Guinness World Records so there was a number defined for the record. Mr. Cevik had to pass at least 10 times through a metal hoop in order to set the record.

He only managed 6 passes in his first try, because of bad luck. I gave him a second chance and this time he managed to pass exactly 10 times and became the owner of this record.

IPad Launch: New World Record Set And Tallest Married Couple Join The Queue

London – May 28th, 2010 Live from the iPad queue at the Apple Store on Regent Street, the latest Guinness World Record Breaker can be announced today for the fastest time to type the alphabet on a brand new iPad. Joseph Grech, who is 28 and originally from Malta, was queuing from 3am before making his record attempt and setting a new global standard with an astonishing speed of 6.61 seconds for his fingers to go from A to Z.

First Guinness World Records achievement on the iPad

Surrounded by over a thousand Apple fans, all hungry to get their hands on the brand new Apple iPad, breaking this Guinness World Record was not an easy feat for Joseph.

“I was really looking forward to being one of the first to get my hands on an iPad, so to also end up getting a Guinness World Record today is incredible. I’m really happy and can’t wait to brag to my friends about it. The photo of me with the certificate will be my facebook profile photo!” said Joseph, the latest addition to the hallowed Guinness World Records hall of fame.

The stakes were high as Joseph was up against over 30 other fast-fingers hoping to set a Guinness World Record today. Initially, it seemed Jordan Chitty from Kennington, London, had set an unbeatable time with 6.7 seconds, but with just minutes to go Joseph mustered the need for speed and recorded the Guinness World Record breaking time.

A spokesman from Guinness World Records said, “The new Apple iPad is such an iconic and exciting device. Today it seems only fitting that arguably the biggest launch in Apple’s long and distinguished history is also the backdrop to its iPad being involved in a Guinness World Record breaker attempt.”

Also queuing for an iPad on Friday morning were the world's tallest married couple, Keisha and Wilco van Kleef-Bolton, in full wedding dress. The couple feature on the new free LITE app created specifically for the iPad: Guinness World Records: At Your Fingertips. The new app offers an exclusive collection of multi-layered, world-record feats including compelling video, images and graphics allowing readers to interact with the content like never before.
